Job Search TV brings employment want ads to you

Friday, August 8th, 2008
Job Search Television Network, a new cable channel that launched in the Chicago market in July, is using TV to reinvent the traditional job search. Television distribution has allowed JSTN to take want ads and on-line job boards to the next level by featuring the ‘company-behind-the-job’. With the appeal of television and mainstream exposure, JSTN shows all the signs of building steady momentum among viewers and is already preparing to expand into other markets with plans to become a national network on Comcast.

The network offers more insight about companies and their available job openings. In turn, jobseekers as well as human resources and recruitment departments of major corporations are approaching their preliminary employment searches from an entirely new vantage point.

With the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics reporting that the number of unemployed persons has increased by 1.6 million just over the past 12 months, jobseekers face more competition, while employers look for better ways to manage a growing pool of candidates. As an employment and recruitment mechanism that combines in-depth career opportunities with the company’s brand identity, JSTN’s approach has great appeal for both sides of the job search. For the price of posting a position on a leading job board, now any company can receive television exposure along with professionally produced video assets for posting on their job board; text posting of the video link; and presence on www.myjstn.com.

The in-depth job profile not only allows candidates seeking employment to examine their own qualifications, but it also helps them consider real life circumstances such as the workplace environment and if they are well-suited to the company culture. In essence, each side stands better prepared to seriously focus on finding the right match.

“Given the scalability of JSTN, we needed to find a distribution platform for the Chicago market and beyond,” explains Stanton. “Comcast was able to provide us with an audience of over a million digital homes. That means we're reaching several million viewers in the Chicago market alone. That exposure supports our plans for expanding into additional U.S. markets.”

“We’re generating assets for broadcast, web and mobile in the most rapid timeframe possible”, Shin explains. “From the time we receive preliminary employment information, job segments can be produced at the studio and on the air in a matter of days.”

JSTN is already attracting jobseekers as well as corporations who aim to bolster their recruitment process. Leading companies that already feature job listings on JSTN include McDonald's Corporation, Allstate Insurance, DeVry University, ENH, and U.S. Cellular.

JSTN airs every day in Chicago on Comcast channel 102. Times are Monday through Friday 6:00am–8:00am and 9:00pm–10:00pm. Saturday and Sunday 7:00am–9:00am and 9:00pm–10:00pm.

To learn more about JSTN’s other job search features including Tips and Advice, VideoLink, Mobilink and to view video job reports, visit www.myjstn.com.

Stan Lee teams with Viz Media for new Manga series

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008
VIZ Media, which recently announced that it's starting a film production shop to bring many of it's popular Manga titles to the big screen, has temed with Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment for the North American debut of the exciting Prologue Chapter of ULTIMO in the September 2008 issue of SHONEN JUMP magazine, which hits retail outlets nationwide on August 5th. ULTIMO is the result of a historic collaboration between comics legend Stan Lee, creator of many iconic superheroes including Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men, and Hiroyuki Takei, the creator of the popular SHAMAN KING manga (graphic novel) series.

The ULTIMO story: High above Farmless City, citizens are stunned by the sudden appearance of two floating figures. Are they human boys, monolithic robots, or something much more strange? As the battle ensues between them, destruction and devastation falls on the hapless city. One figure is Vice, and seems to be as evil as his name implies. The other is Ultimo, intent on trying to stop Vice from wreaking more havoc. But who are Vice and Ultimo really? Where did they come from? A new mystery begins with the fate of the world possibly hanging in the balance! The ULTIMO Prologue Chapter recently debuted in a special standalone issue Jump SQ. published by the Japanese manga magazine Jump SQ., the sibling publication of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump, which is historically the best-selling manga magazine in Japan.

“Wow! This is just what I’ve been waiting for!” says an excited Stan Lee. “For the very first time I’m able to create superheroes in the fantastic Japanese manga style thanks to my lucky partnership with the great Hiroyuki Takei. What a kick it’ll be to join Hiroyuki-san in offering brand new, action packed stories to an army of readers in both the Eastern and Western worlds!”

“Word of ULTIMO’s development and subsequent debut in Japan led many domestic fans to wonder when they would get a chance to read it so we’re very excited to offer the North American debut in the upcoming September issue of SHONEN JUMP,” says SHONEN JUMP Editor-in-Chief Marc Weidenbaum. “ULTIMO was developed as a true collaboration with Stan Lee sending his initial story idea to Takei-san, who developed artwork and characters and reworked the plot to fit into the Japanese manga storytelling style. The result is something extremely compelling and we invite everyone to check out this historic release in our upcoming issue!”

For over half a century, Stan Lee has been synonymous with superhero comics. In addition to creating countless memorable series and characters, including Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and Daredevil, he served as the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics. Lee remains a hugely respected and dynamic figure in the entertainment industry and continues to develop a variety of film, television and video game properties.

Unconventional author/artist Hiroyuki Takei began his career by winning the coveted Hop Step Award (for new manga artists) and the Osamu Tezuka Award. After working as an assistant to famed artist Nobuhiro Watsuki (RUROUNI KENSHIN), Takei debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997 with Butsu Zone, an action series based on Buddhist mythology. His multicultural adventure manga SHAMAN KING debuted in Japan in 1998 and has been adapted into a popular animated television series. The SHAMAN KING manga series is also published in North America by VIZ Media; for many years it was serialized in English in SHONEN JUMP magazine.

Adult Swim announces Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II

Thursday, July 31st, 2008
Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken travels back to a galaxy far, far away to create a second, all-new Star Wars-themed special. Premiering November 16 at 11:30 p.m., Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II combines the satirical sensibilities of Seth Green and Matthew Senreich’s (Stoopid Monkey Productions) Emmy-winning Robot Chicken with the unforgettable moments and favorite characters of the Star Wars universe. The special, to be directed by Green, is a follow-up to last year’s Robot Chicken: Star Wars, which was nominated for an Emmy last week. Both specials and the Robot Chicken series are created in conjunction with ShadowMachine Films’ Alex Bulkley and Corey Campononico.

“We’re thrilled to get to make ‘Episode II;’ it doesn’t even seem real—getting to make Star Wars twice! We’re so excited and bursting with joy,” says co-creator Seth Green.

“With this second special, we knew we had to do something a bit different, something more,” says co-creator Matt Senreich. “With that in mind, we decided to focus on the bounty hunters a bit and explore their stories. It’s a geek-fest for us all.”

Robot Chicken: Star wars Episode II gives Star Wars an entirely different attitude as it transforms the galaxy into the stop-motion animated world that is the hallmark of Robot Chicken. The special will feature original Star Wars lead actress Carrie Fisher reprising her role as Princess Leia and Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian. From the first special, Green and Senreich have secured Ahmed Best to return as Jar Jar Binks, Seth MacFarlane as Emperor Palpatine, Breckin Meyer as Admiral Ackbar and Boba Fett, Conan O’Brien as Zuckuss and Donald Faison. Green won this year’s Annie Award for directing the first special and will voice numerous characters, including Ponda Baba in Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II. Andy Richter also joins the voice talent cast.

Today’s announcement comes on the heels of the bonus-filled DVD release of the first special, Robot Chicken: Star Wars, which hit stores July 22.

Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II is created and executive produced by Green and Senreich under their own Stoopid Monkey Productions, in conjunction with Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico’s ShadowMachine Films. The duo also executive produce, write and direct the series, with Green providing many of the voices in the special and the series. Six all-new episodes of the Robot Chicken series begin airing August 31. The special is written by Green, Senreich, series head writers Tom Root and Douglas Goldstein and the Robot Chicken writing staff.

In the movie, Kastel--who is one of the movie’s executive producers--and her band perform her song behind the jokes filmed at the renowned Ice House in Pasadena, California.

The film also features two other original Kastel tracks, “Rope Me A Cowboy” and the tongue in cheek country-pop-rock title theme song “Everybody Loves A Dirty Joke.” Additionally, Kastel’s video for her country pop song “Nashville Tonight” is a popular draw on YouTube TV.

While her official first single, “Beyond The Sea,” was an adult contemporary hit that reached #14 on FMQB’s AC40 Chart, the track that has subsequently been downloaded the most as a single and ringtone is “Danke Schoen.” Two other tracks, “When I Fall In Love” and “Fever,” have scored over 9,000 listens on MySpace.

In addition, the singer recently returned from performing at The Nashville Songwriters Festival and continues her longtime association with the Children’s Miracle Network, the alliance of premier hospitals for children for which she performs numerous local fundraisers.
